1. Previous
Minutes and Action Points
NOHSAC Minutes of 8 February
2006 and 23 May were reviewed and the Committee agreed that they were
a true and accurate record of the meeting.

All action points were reviewed. The following action points were carried
forward.
Minutes – 8 February 2006
Action 5: Mark Wagstaffe to draft a letter
to Agencies advising them of the upcoming launch of the National Profile
report and seeking additional comments. This letter is to be circulated
to the Committee prior to the next meeting.

Action 7: Prepare a draft Request for Proposal
on Musculoskeletal disorders before the next meeting.

8: Prepare a draft proposal for the Organisation and Social Aspects

2. NOHSAC
Operations
Surveillance Workshop in
Sydney
Mark Wagstaffe updated the Committee on the successful ‘Exposure Surveillance
– The Big Picture, Imperatives for Change’ seminar held in Sydney on
the 26 June 2006.
ICOH, Milan
Mark Wagstaffe updated the
Committee on the ICOH Conference in Milan.
Appointment Process
The NOHSAC Secretariat advised
that the Cabinet paper requested reappointment of Anne-Marie Feyer and
Professor Neil Pearce was presented to the Cabinet Business Office on
Monday, 7 August 2006. Nominations were still being received for vacancy
on the Committee. This list is to be reviewed by Neil Pearce by the
end of the week.
Action 1: NOHSAC Secretariat to forward
the list of nominations to Neil Pearce by the end of the week.

Annual Report
The NOHSAC Secretariat provided
the Committee with the draft of the Third Annual Report. Changes will
be made to the Foreword of the annual report and then forwarded to the
Committee for comment.
Action 2: Once the changes to the Foreword
are made, the Secretariat will forward new version to the Committee
for comment.

NOHSAC’s Work Programme
Review of the Surveillance
of and Control of Workplace Exposures in New Zealand.
A copy of the NOHSAC’s draft
report was reviewed by the Committee. Suggested changes were made on
the Introduction. The Committee is to get their suggestions on content
back to Mark Wagstaffe. The Committee have decided that the launch will
be held during September or October. This will depend on Hon Ruth Dyson
and whether there is going to be a formal or informal launch.
Action 3: The Committee is to review the
introduction and send any comments to Mark Wagstaffe.

Hon Ruth Dyson on a possible launch date, and whether it is to be a

International Review of
National Structures for Occupational Health and Safety
Mark Wagstaffe produced a
contract for Dr Kendall to commence work on the review. The sign-off,
by the Department of Labour, of the contract was not received by the
Secretariat to give sufficient time (as set out in the contract) for
Dr Kendall to commence and complete the review within the original timeline.
A new timeline and contract will need to be set on Dr Kendall’s return
from annual leave.
Action 5: Mark Wagstaffe to discuss the
contract with Dr Kendall once he has returned from leave and have the
Department of Labour sign a new contract.

Other Matters
Meeting with the Minister
of Labour
Hon Ruth Dyson was unable to meet with the Committee. An invitation
to the next Committee meeting will be forwarded to the Minister in due
course.
Action 6: The NOHSAC Secretariat will forward
details of the next Committee meeting to Hon Ruth Dyson.

Invited Guests
Hazel Armstrong, the current
Chair of the Ministerial Advisory Panel on Work Related Gradual Process
met with the Committee. Hazel Armstrong commended the Committee on the
reports that have been produced to date and asked for a copy of the
Economic and Social Costs of Occupational Disease and Injury in New
Zealand.
Action 7: The NOHSAC Secretariat will forward
a copy of the Economic and Social Costs of Occupational Disease and
Injury in New Zealand to Hazel Armstrong.
