1. Previous Minutes and Action Points

NOHSAC Minutes of 14 November 2006 were reviewed and the Committee agreed that they were a true and accurate record of the meeting.

All action points were reviewed.

2. Meeting with Ministerial Advisory Panel on Work Related Gradual Process Disease or Infection

Neil Pearce met with the Ministerial Advisory Panel on Work Related Gradual Process Disease or Infection for a discussion on possible areas of collaboration. At this stage the two committees will continue to work co-operatively unless specific requests are received from the Minister of Labour to work on specific joint projects.

3. NOHsac Operations

The next meeting date for 2007 was discussed. The proposed date of 18 April 2007 is not acceptable due to other commitments

Action 1: NOHSAC Secretariat to send an email out to the Committee asking for their preferred dates for the next meeting.

4. NOHSAC’s Work Programme

National Profile Occupational Safety and Health: Report to the Minister of Labour


Mark Wagstaffe presented the draft National Profile Occupational Safety Health: Report to the Minister of Labour. Updated information in response to NOHSAC’s letter was provided by the Council of Trade Unions and a meeting held with the ACC provided additional information.

Additional suggestions and comments were made by the committee and these will be added prior to circulating the Draft Report to Social Partners and Government agencies for further comment.

Action 2: NOHSAC Secretariat to incorporate comments and circulate to committee members.

Action 3: NOHSAC Secretariat to send draft copies of the National Profile Occupational Safety Health: Report to the Minister of Labour to Social Partners and Government Agencies for comment.

Action 4: Neil and Mark to prepare the ‘preferred options’ and forward to the Committee for additions prior to the next meeting.

Request for Proposal on Musculoskeletal disorders.

The RFP has been revised but issuing the contract will depend on the progress of other researchers with an interest in Musculoskeletal Disorders.

Action 5: Mark Wagstaffe will meet with Researchers into Musculoskeletal disorders and inform the committee on progress in this area.

The Evolving Work Environment in New Zealand, Implications for Occupational Health and Safety


The RFP was placed on the NOHSAC website and responses close on Friday 23 February 2007.

Action 6: Mark Wagstaffe will forward responses to the RFP to the committee for consideration. If no responses are received Mark Wagstaffe will make direct contact with Melbourne Institute of Applied Economic and Social Research and the Workplace Research Centre, Sydney University for expressions of interest.

5. Other Matters

Chief Coroner

The committee agreed to invite the Chief Coroner to a future meeting to discuss the recommendations contained within the Surveillance of Occupational Disease and Injury in New Zealand: Report to the Minister of Labour.

Target Date: April 2007

Department of Labour – Memorandum of Understanding

Alison Dalziel from the Department of Labour had previously met with the Committee and agreed that the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) needed to reviewed and a detailed list of ‘operational rules’ be included. The MOU has not yet been revised but is understood that the Department is still committed to revising the MOU by April 2007.

Action 7: Mark Wagstaffe and Alison Dalziel will review the MOU and forward to the Committee for feedback. The final agreed MOU will be completed by Neil Pearce and James Buwalda, the Secretary of DoL.
